Peddling/Soliciting in the Township

Pennsylvania law requires that all municipalities allow lawful solicitations. To help keep everyone safe, Limerick Township has a Peddling/Solicitation Ordinance which requires soliciting permits for most vendors: window, siding or paving companies, energy providers, etc.

Applicants must apply in person with the Township, pay a fee, and provide a government-issued photo ID. After a background check, each solicitor is issued his/her own individual permit card. Solicitors MUST carry their permit with them at all times. 

Keep your personal safety in mind at all times. If solicitors knock, your first option is to not answer the door. If you do speak with them, your first questions should be to ask to see their soliciting permit. If they do not have a permit issued by the Township, stop the conversation and tell them to leave. CALL 911 if you feel threatened, if they do not leave, or you see them approaching a vulnerable neighbor, such as an elderly person or latchkey kids. Ask the dispatcher to inform the patrol officers that unpermitted solicitors are in your neighborhood. Give a physical description of the person(s). If possible, give a vehicle description or license plate number.

In an effort to limit unwanted solicitations, the Township has created a “Do not solicit" list that residents can sign up for. To sign up for the list, please click here. This list is given to permitted solicitation companies to advise them of who does not want solicited. Residents who do not want to be solicited can also clearly place “NO SOLICITATION” signs at the end of their driveways or at their doors.

NOTE: Non-profit Groups, Religious organizations, and Political affiliates are EXEMPT from the solicitation rules.
