Police

History

The Limerick Township Police Department was founded in May of 1965 with the Board of Supervisors' approval of a police administrator and 6 part-time patrol officers. These officers patrolled the Township utilizing their own vehicles from 7:00PM to 1:00PM Tuesday through Saturday. Today, the department consists of 30 officers, 4 civilians, 3 crossing guards and 2 canine units.

The department’s core values of Honor, Integrity, and Professionalism are incorporated into our mission statement. It is our mission to improve the quality of life of residents, businesspersons and visitors to Limerick Township by providing the highest level of professional police service.

We pledge to maintain the public trust by partnering with the community and by conducting ourselves with integrity. We commit ourselves to work as a team to create a safe, crime free environment by honorably enforcing the laws of the United States Constitution, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the ordinances of Limerick Township.

Units

The Police Department is broken down into 4 patrol platoons, each of which is supervised by a sergeant. The deployment of the patrol force is overseen by a lieutenant, a position created by the Board of Supervisors in July 2013. The patrol platoons are supported by 3 investigators and supervised by a sergeant. Limerick Township has 2 Police K-9 units that were obtained through private donations.The department also has a Bicycle Unit that is deployed during special events and circumstances.

Special Units

The Limerick Township Police Department is active in the Regional DUI Enforcement Team, the Montgomery County Drug Task Force, the Montgomery County Major Incident Response Team and the Montgomery County SWAT-Western Region (MSWAT-W). MSWAT-W is a highly trained and equipped group of officers that can provide a tactical resolution to high risk incidents.

Community Services

The Police Department is a multi-functional organization that is both proactive and community- oriented and endeavors to be professional and successful problem solvers. It provides many services to the community, including crime prevention programs and safety presentations to various groups. Members of the department take part in various school functions and present crime prevention tips to residential and business groups. 

Fingerprinting Services

The Police Department is excited to announce that it now provides fingerprinting services for purposes such as employment, name change, etc. The fee is $25. 

Continued Growth & Advancement

Limerick Township has been described as “one of the fastest growing Townships in Montgomery County”. The Police Department continues to strive for new and more efficient ways to better serve the public. Updated equipment and ongoing training are only 2 of the many efforts employed to enhance the service capabilities of the agency. As the Township continues to grow, so does the Police Department and we look forward to the challenges ahead.
